STOCKTON, CA A quick moving cold front brought stormy weather Wednesday. The National Weather Service confirmed an EF1 tornado around 1:00 p.m. just four miles west of French Camp.
Record keeping of tornadoes in California dates back to 1950. Since then, 389 (including Wednesday's) tornadoes have been confirmed in the state.
The San Joaquin County area can claim 16 of those tornadoes. Most have been EF0 which normally cause little damage.
No one has ever been killed from a tornado in California but people have suffered serious injuries.
The Enhanced Fujita Scale is used to rate the strength of tornadoes based on the damage they cause. This new scale came into existence in 2007 based on analysis of storms and the damage.
