Winter Holiday Avoid DUI Campaign

The Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and special Avoid the 10 DUI deployments during the past several days in San Joaquin County.

From 12:01 AM Friday December 14, 2012 through Midnight Monday December 31, 2012 officers representing 10 county law enforcement agencies have arrested 133 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2011 130 DUI arrests occurred during the 2012 holiday campaign time period.

For the final night of the campaign there are no special operations planned until Super Bowl Sunday. CHP are deploying all available officers for their Maximum Enforcement Period during the holiday weekend ending midnight tonight. All regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers will focus efforts at stopping and arresting DUI drivers during their normal shifts through the weekend.

Parking meters going digital in Stockton

The City of Stockton is upgrading all parking meters in downtown Stockton. Beginning in January 2012, the Central Parking District will begin converting older mechanical models with new digital internal mechanisms and displays. With the new installment, parking meter rates will increase. Current parking meter rates range from .25 cents to .50 cents per hour. Rates will increase to $1.00 per hour for all parking meters when the meters are upgraded.

CHP offers summer driving tips

For many, summertime is vacation time. During the summer months, not only does the temperature begin to climb, vehicle travel increases as well.

"We want you to have a safe and healthy summer, and enjoy the California sunshine on your next road trip," said California Highway Patrol (CHP) Commissioner Joe Farrow. "Safety should never take a backseat; buckle up, designate a non-drinking driver, adhere to the speed limit and follow a few simple suggestions."

Due to the high temperatures during the summer months, before traveling, have your vehicle thoroughly checked, with special attention given to these items:

· Cooling System. Examine all belts and hoses for cracks or leaks, replacing any you may have doubts about. Don’t forget tools and water to accomplish a change if necessary.

Caltrans thanks community; construction finished ahead of time

STOCKTON - In a press release Monday, the Department of Transportation (Caltrans) would like to thank the traveling public for their cooperation and consideration during the extreme maintenance activities completed during the full closure of State Route 12 (SR-12) from Interstate 5 in San Joaquin County to SR-160 in Sacramento County.

This complete road closure allowed maintenance crews to repair segments of SR-12 in three days as opposed to the 15 days with one-way traffic control and 90 minute delays it would have taken otherwise.

Stockton police plan DUI checkpoint Friday night

STOCKTON - The Stockton Police Department will conduct a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Friday, May 27, from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., on March Lane west of Hillsboro Way. The department is continuing its efforts at lowering the number of people killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes locally and through the county’s Avoid the 10 DUI Task Force Campaign with this DUI/Drivers License checkpoint. Officers will be checking drivers to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as heightening awareness to the dangers of impaired driving.

The holidays are a dangerous time of the year and your odds of being involved in an alcohol involved collision can be high.

A major component of the checkpoints, beyond taking dangerous drivers off the road, is to increase awareness of the consequences of impaired driving and to encourage using sober designated drivers. A DUI checkpoint is a proven effective method for achieving this goal.

San Joaquin County officials plan Memorial Day weekend DUI patrols

The Avoid the 10 DUI Campaign will be deploying officers this holiday weekend at DUI/Drivers License Checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols countywide to arrest impaired drivers who still don’t get the message.

The Memorial Day weekend is witness to the kick off of summertime recreation and holiday travel, along with many college and high school graduations seeing thousands celebrate their accomplishments. The next 100 days will also see a rise in deaths and injuries as far too many individuals get behind the wheel impaired.

The enforcement campaign begins Friday night with DUI/Drivers License checkpoints in the city of Stockton and Escalon with special DUI Saturation Patrols deploying in the citiy of Manteca.
