Parking meters going digital in Stockton

The City of Stockton is upgrading all parking meters in downtown Stockton. Beginning in January 2012, the Central Parking District will begin converting older mechanical models with new digital internal mechanisms and displays. With the new installment, parking meter rates will increase. Current parking meter rates range from .25 cents to .50 cents per hour. Rates will increase to $1.00 per hour for all parking meters when the meters are upgraded.

Construction work to begin on Grider Way soon

Construction work to begin on Grider Way soon

STOCKTON - Road construction work is scheduled to begin within the next two weeks to connect Grider Way to Whistler Way, between Lower Sacramento Road and Davis Road, as part of the North Stockton Railroad Grade Separations project. Access to local businesses on Grider Way and Lower Sacramento Road will be maintained at all times during construction.

Roadwork on Lower Sacramento Road will begin in Summer 2011. As part of the planned work, Lower Sacramento Road will be closed between Grider Way and Marlette Road. During its closure, northbound traffic on Lower Sacramento Road will be directed via Grider Way and Whistler Way to Davis Road. Grider Way will be ready to carry traffic by the end of May and will be functional prior to the closing of Lower Sacramento Road. As a result, traffic volumes will increase on Whistler Way.

Funding approved for radar speed signs

STOCKTON - The City of Stockton has received a Highway Safety Improvement Project (HSIP) Grant to fund the purchase and installation of Radar Speed Feedback signs at 16 locations, 10 of which are in school zones. Project design will begin in August 2011 and construction is expected to be completed by March 2012.

The purpose of the signs is to address neighborhood traffic issues, including speed-related collisions and pedestrian and bicycle safety. Signs will be installed at the following locations:

· Swain Road, between Pacific Avenue and El Dorado Street

· El Dorado Street, between Robinhood and Swain Road

· Stanfield Drive, between Kelley Drive and Chauncy Circle (W)

· Kelley Drive, between Mosher Slough and Salters Drive

· Filbert Street, between E.
