Stockton businesses try new panhandling tactic

STOCKTON, CA - The Downtown Stockton Alliance has found a new use for old parking meter heads. They're being placed in downtown businesses to collect donations for homeless services.

The goal is to collect donations that go to agencies instead of to aggressive downtown panhandlers.

"There are organizations set up to help them.  By giving them a dollar, they continue the cycle of abuse they're on," said Chris Kotsoglou with the downtwon group.

The meters are mostly in businesses near the downtown theater complex.
