STOCKTON, Calif. - A joint effort between the Stockton Police Department and the California Department of Justice led to the discovery and subsequent bust of an illegal online gambling operation in Stockton Monday.

Stockton police officers said they received so many complaints about prostitution and drug sales allegedly taking place at the commercial property on the 2500 block of Fremont Street that they launched an investigation of the property.

"There were people coming here all day long, from early in the morning until late in the afternoon.  It was constant," said Alan Lund.

Information gathered during the investigation led to Monday morning's bust, in which evidence of apparent illegal online gambling activity was observed on the premises.

Stockton police officers on scene said the individual suspected of running the operation was making as much as $5,000 per day.

Online gambling is illegal in the state of California.
