Stockton teen hit 3 times in random shooting | Crime
STOCKTON, CA - A teenager was struck three times during a random shooting in North Stockton Saturday night.
Jhonetta Nagle, 17, is the latest victim of gun violence, Stockton Police Department Joe Silva said. Nagle and her friends were just trying to change a flat tire when the incident happened.
The teens pulled into the "Big Lots" store parking lot at Hammer Lane and West Lane to try and fix the flat.
They gestured to another group, hoping to get help. Instead, they were shot at, Silva said.
"The cars drove up and (the occupants were) staring at them. One signaled to the other and said 'shoot them'," the victim's mother, Michele Nagle said. "When (Nagle and her friends) heard the gunshots, they ran. When they got up, she didn't."
Hit twice in the leg and once in the face, Nagle was the only one shot. She lost several teeth and will need a lot more surgery because of the gunshot wound to her face.
Doctors said it will be a long road to recovery.
"She's a good girl. She's getting ready to start her senior year in high school. She's getting ready to start volunteering at the hospital I work at. And now, she's going to be on the long road to recovery with all the injuries," said Michele continued.
Michele knows about the growing violence in Stockton. But it hasn't hit home until now.
"It's something that happens to other people. It doesn't come to your door. But now it has. Now I feel what these other parents have been feeling," Michele said.
Police are reviewing surveillance video from neighboring businesses and traffic cameras. Michele said police have a good description of the cars, but not the occupants.
