STOCKTON - Two men were arrested and their two suspected accomplices are still outstanding following a vehicle pursuit in Stockton on Saturday night.

According to Stockton Police spokesman Joe Silva, officers responded to a call of four people firing guns in the area of California and Acadia St. around 5:11 p.m. Upon arrival, the officers spotted the four individuals leaving the area in a vehicle. The officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver fled, said Silva.

Officers pursued, but abandoned the chase when the fleeing vehicle began driving in the wrong direction of traffic, Silva said.

The vehicle was later located abandoned at McComb Ave. and Bacon St.

Deputies from the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office, who had responded to the same location on a report of people trying to enter a property, located and detained the driver, Omar Gonzalez, 34. Assisting officers from the Stockton Police Dept. were able to locate and detain one of the passengers, Michael Dougherty, 22 of Stockton, said Silva.

The two additional passengers were not located and are considered at large.

An ensuing search of the area returned two assault rifles and a handgun.

Gonzalez and Dougherty were then positively identified by witnesses from the original shots fired call, according to Silva. Gonzalez was subsequently arrested on weapon and traffic charges. Dougherty was arrested on weapon charges, Silva said.

The Stockton Police Dept. asked anyone with information pertaining to the investigation, or to the whereabouts of the outstanding individuals to call 209-937-8377 or to contact Crime Stoppers at (209) 946-0600. Callers can remain anonymous.

Citizens may also text information from their cell phones to 'CRIMES' (274637) and type the keyword TIPSPD or logon to the Stockton Police Department's Facebook page and click 'Submit a Tip'.

If you have any information that may lead to an arrest in this case, Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward up to $1,000.
